The number of foreign tourists visiting Japan has increased significantly with the support of the Japanese government, exceeding 10 million annually in 2013, approaching 20 million in 2015, and surpassing 30 million in 2018.
It continued to grow steadily in 2019, but then we had the COVID-19 pandemic for three years. However, by 2023, after the pandemic ended, it almost returned to pre-COVID levels, and in 2024, it made further progress, reaching over 3 million visitors per month. In this environment, the number of repeat visitors has increased, and tourism has become more diverse. MEC Japan then decided to enter the tourism business, drawing on the relationships it has cultivated with medical care and hospitals over the past 30 years.
Health tourism covers both medical tourism, such as health checkups, medical examinations, treatment and rehabilitation, and wellness tourism, which is the previous stage of mental and physical care. It includes “spa, yoga, fitness,” “recreation” and “golf tourism.”
We assist with detailed communications between overseas patients and hospitals for medical check-ups and treatment, as well as arranging transportation and accommodations. We also handle golf tourism from Japan mainly to Southeast Asian countries, and corporate study trips as well.
